The Montgomery County Track & Field program began competing in 1953 at the state level as the Mt. Vernon-Ailey School and with school consolidation became known as Montgomery County in 1956. The first region championship was captured in 1957 and the boys have went on to win 7 region/area championships and have had 5 region/area runner-up finishes. The girls team claimed area runner up finishes in 2018 & 2019 and then went on to win their first region championship in the 2021 season..
The Boys program has had 80 boys earn a trip to the state track meet and 64 of which have reached the medal podium. The Lady Eagles have had over 30 girls earn a trip to the state track meet and earn a spot on the medal podium. Theron Conner was the first to place at the state meet with a runner-up finish in the broad jump in 1955 and 1956. The first individual state champion was Larry Faircloth who claimed gold in the pole vault at the 1959 state track meet. Faircloth's vault of 11-4 still stands as the school record in the event. Counting Faircloth's championship the Eagles have claimed state titles 19 times in 11 different events. Clayton Harvey leads all Eagles with 61.75 points scored at the state track meet over his four year career as he led the 2018 boys' squad to the first state title in any male sport in Eagle athletic history. Three Eagles have earned high point honors at the state track meet as Curtis Ryals Sr. was the first to do so in 1972. Xavier Brantley took high point honors at the 2021 state track meet and Marley Bell became the first female in school history to earn high point honors at the state meet as the scored an amazing 36 points in 2021 as a freshman.
The storied tradition in Montgomery County track & field continues today with a new set of Eagles looking to stamp their name in Eagle history with their own successes.

Student athletes and parents please review the below information!!
All student athletes that have aspirations of playing any sport at the collegiate level have certain steps that they must follow to ensure that you will have this opportunity. Of course we all know that there are certain course requirements that student athletes must meet, but did you know that other than making good grades there is another important step that you must follow. Each student athlete should create an account at the NCAA eligibility center. We suggest that this is completed after completing 9th grade. Once you have created your account, you will be shown the important steps that must be followed in order for you to be eligible to gain acceptance and be eligible to participate in athletics at a DI, DII, or DIII school of your choice.
